  • Apple Digital Bootcamp - 2010-08-23 18:22:57 -

I have just finished my first day of three at the Apple Digital Bootcamp being held in Alexandra College, Milltown, Dublin. It was a long day 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. filled will hands-on practical workshops. The event was organised by the INTO with the full support of Apple Ireland. Typetec ltd supplied the Apple hardware to the PC community. Both primary and post-primary teachers are being fast-tracked by experts through podcasting, animation, digital photography, videography, music, etc. I can't wait for tomorrow - if I can get up in the morning.

  • WeatherPixie is under the weather - 2010-08-07 15:43:04 -

The WeatherPixie.com has been experiencing server trouble for the last 6 months and is in need of pixie dust. It was definitely down at the end of February as it was pointed out to me in some of my birthday greetings.  I have just gone onto the site and it is empty except for a Twitter link for @weatherpixieHQ .  Judging from the last tweet on March 7th nothing else seems to be happening. Bearing that in mind I am going to retire WeatherPixie from the sidebar until further developments have taken place on the site.

The Vikings are coming!

Here is a great online project for the long summer holidays. The Vikings are coming back to Dublin and you can track the boat's progress on the internet. The rebuilt Viking longship will travel 1000 nautical miles from Denmark to Dublin starting on July 1st and arriving in Dublin's on August 14th, 2007.

Once they [...]

Library Database on Access

The library management application I cobbled together 10 years ago was on Access 97. The bar code reader was serial driven so it would not work on modern PCs. I don’t even have a copy of it nowadays. I would not bother doing a DIY job as it is too time consuming and you will end up [...]

No Claim!

The Cornmarket’s teachers’ travel insurance have refused to entertain my claim for the laptop as the invoice is made out to CESI Drumconrda Education Centre. The amount involved is only a fifth of its replacement value.

Wild and Windy Weekend

I wonder how the Mooney Nestbox faired this weekend. The gusts of wind demolished my potted apple and cheery trees. Nearly all the emerging fruit ended on the ground. What a pity!

Mooney Cam Link

Many 4th Class pupils informed me that they were unable to view the the Blue Tit nest on the RTE Radio One's "Mooney" site. Just click on the above graphic to go to the "Mooney Cam" page.

You will need Real Player (click above link) to view the two cameras. A broadband connection is [...]

Malta to be enlarged!

This morning RTE Radio One News reported that the islands of the the Republic of Malta are too small to be seen on the present map of Europe which graces the non-copper denominations of the €uro coins.

The 2008 minting will include "an enlarged" Malta for all to see. However, it will take the best part of 2008 for the new Irish coins [...]

Wireless Printer Server

Wireless G All-in-One Print Server

This is a very compact unit (about the size of a pack of 20 cigarettes) and comes supplied with Server software and a plug-in PSU. Unfortunately, the USB cable is not supplied.

Installation of the print server software and configuration of wireless setting took less than ten minutes. Once the printer [...]

An access point plugs into a RJ45 scoket of a structured  cabling system and offers the user wireless access to the hardwired system in the building and its environs.
