  • Apple Digital Bootcamp - 2010-08-23 18:22:57 -

I have just finished my first day of three at the Apple Digital Bootcamp being held in Alexandra College, Milltown, Dublin. It was a long day 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. filled will hands-on practical workshops. The event was organised by the INTO with the full support of Apple Ireland. Typetec ltd supplied the Apple hardware to the PC community. Both primary and post-primary teachers are being fast-tracked by experts through podcasting, animation, digital photography, videography, music, etc. I can't wait for tomorrow - if I can get up in the morning.

  • WeatherPixie is under the weather - 2010-08-07 15:43:04 -

The WeatherPixie.com has been experiencing server trouble for the last 6 months and is in need of pixie dust. It was definitely down at the end of February as it was pointed out to me in some of my birthday greetings.  I have just gone onto the site and it is empty except for a Twitter link for @weatherpixieHQ .  Judging from the last tweet on March 7th nothing else seems to be happening. Bearing that in mind I am going to retire WeatherPixie from the sidebar until further developments have taken place on the site.

Online Safety

In one of the first Skype contacts in the life of this project, Jacqueline and I discussed the important issue of online safety and need for a set of publishing protocols. We decided on the following guidelines. Comments are open on this page. Please feel free to comment. Comments are moderated as usual.

  1. A student may use a pseudonym or their first name only.
  2. Personal email addresses are not published online.
  3. Student-to-student email contacts are not encouraged.
  4. Photographs and video clips should be of a medium to low resolution.
  5. High resolution images must have written permission from the parents.
  6. Joint site administration priviliges.
  7. All comments shall be moderated.
  8. Comments may be made in English, Gaeilge and Maltese.
  9. Posts and comments are subject to editing if the need arises.
  10. 90 day old images and videos may be removed to accellerate site download times.

Saint Attracta's Senior National School www.sasns.ie was involved in the testing and evaluation of the SAFT CD-ROM several years ago. The school was chosen as it had an an ISDN link and an established fully networked computer room. The content was then made available on http://www.saft.ie/ which in turn has been enhanced and expanded to include all modern aspects of online safety for children. The site was relaunched as http://www.webwise.ie/ to reflect its mission to provide online safety to children of at various levels of education and online exprience.
