A Cautionary Tale!

Flickr as we all know is under a blanket ban on the Schools Broadband Network

I have used Gallery 2 up to now but the time overhead had grown and it seems prone to attacks.

In an effort to have our school Flickr Pro account approved by the NCTE – FortiNet – HEAnet it was suggested by the NCTE Help Desk that I change my account name to reflect the schools name. I also made a school crest flickr badge and completed the account.

In doing so I renamed the Pro account permanently and thereby severed links to sites around Europe that pointed to hidden eTwinning sets in our account. I also have a few images featuring in online tourist guides and they also bitten the dust.

So don’t rush into things. Think first. I have to redo nearly 80 links.

It seems to have fallen foul of FortiNet filtering protocols. I doubt if it was a policy decision by the NCTE as many schools use Google Image Search everyday. There may have been a category filing software glitch which triggered the block. We may never know.
