  • Apple Digital Bootcamp - 2010-08-23 18:22:57 -

I have just finished my first day of three at the Apple Digital Bootcamp being held in Alexandra College, Milltown, Dublin. It was a long day 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. filled will hands-on practical workshops. The event was organised by the INTO with the full support of Apple Ireland. Typetec ltd supplied the Apple hardware to the PC community. Both primary and post-primary teachers are being fast-tracked by experts through podcasting, animation, digital photography, videography, music, etc. I can't wait for tomorrow - if I can get up in the morning.

  • WeatherPixie is under the weather - 2010-08-07 15:43:04 -

The WeatherPixie.com has been experiencing server trouble for the last 6 months and is in need of pixie dust. It was definitely down at the end of February as it was pointed out to me in some of my birthday greetings.  I have just gone onto the site and it is empty except for a Twitter link for @weatherpixieHQ .  Judging from the last tweet on March 7th nothing else seems to be happening. Bearing that in mind I am going to retire WeatherPixie from the sidebar until further developments have taken place on the site.

Google Lively R.I.P.

Google’s network of avartars and virtual rooms “Lively beta” wraps up at midnight to-night.

Google launched  launched “Lively beta” last July. It was to act as another medium for online personal expression through the construction and decoration of publicly accessible rooms.

I was a great idea but it [...]

Google Images are back!

The 4th Class girls in Saint Attracta’s S.N.S. were delighted to find that the Google Image search facility was available on the Schools’ Broadband service this morning. The usual cohort of puppies and ponies found their way into their DTP projects. The boys on the other hand did not even know the service had been suspended!

HEAnet on the case!

The NCTE Help Desk seemed to be unaware of the problem. But they have agreed to pass the Google Image Search problem over to HEAnet.

It would appear that images found by other search engines seem to be unaffected on the SBN. In fact if “dog pictures” is Googled it provides some images in the text [...]

Google Image Search is blocked!

No warning! The Google Image Search facility has been blocked on the Schools’ Broadband Service.

It seems to have fallen foul of FortiNet filtering protocols. I doubt if it was a policy decision by the NCTE as many schools use Google Image Search everyday. There may have been a category filing software glitch which triggered the [...]

Slán Froogle

Froogle beta has gone and given way to Google Product Search. It was very useful for price comparison when shopping online or bidding on eBay. This is also a beta service. I wonder how long this will last.
