This software creates an photo slide show with background music, subtitles and transition effects.

Microsoft PhotoStory 3 remains best value for money as it is permanently free of charge and can be installed on every PC in the school. However, it does come with considerable baggage. The host computer must have downloaded and installed Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft Media Player 10 or higher in order for PhotoStory3 to function.

Extra Photo SlideShow supports all major audio and image file formats – see Tags below. It can also extract audio from video files for background music. Be careful to avoid copyright and DRM infringement. Besides its subtitling facility  it also comes with 142 slide transitions. Finally it renders to a high quality compact size including DivX. RealMedia video format is supported to facilitate Internet video file sharing.

I ordered a copy of “Podcast Solutions – The Complete Guide to Podcasting” by Michael W. Geoghegan and Dan Klass in November 2005 from PC World in Liffey Valley Retail Park. Several months passed and I heard nothing so I presumed they could not obtain a copy. And low and behold I am walking through PC World on the first day of the 2006 Easter holidays and there it was alongside the iPod booklets.

What’s all this to do with The Levelator ? Well! The book came with a CD-ROM featuring trial software and links to The Podcast Academy which featured Michael GO HAY GON – it has to be heard to be believed, in action. I have listened to the show ever since.  One of the shows was the technology behind the birth of The Levelator. The Levelator

The Levelator rendered a €1000 of my audio gear redundant in one click. Everyone I know who is interested in even levels , good quality audio is using The Levelator . It runs on Windows or Mac OS X  and Linux.

The Levelator  is a drag and drop solution that replaces the software and hardware audio compressors, normalizers and limiters which were part and parcel of good podcasts in the past. The Levelator  contains all three but their use is invisible to the user.

It adjusts the audio levels in the podcast and produces an even balanced output.  The user interface is simplicity itself. The user drops a  WAV or AIFF file onto The Levelator ‘s application window and the software does the rest.

The Levelator  does not accept MP3 files as they are processed already and degrade with every pass. The standard MP3 file is a lossy format which deteriorates when reprocessed and even copied.

The most important thing to remember is The Levelator  is free for educational use.
