About SLUA

Slua.com was formed two days ago on Thursday, August 29th, 2002 as a hosting and development site for my various “e-merging” ideas. Despite its .com domain registration is it in fact an extra curricular site directed at upskilling myself and anyone who joins me in my endeavours. The .org domain was already taken by a university alumni.

It is very obvious that online developments in realtime communications will herald the arrival of online mobile multimedia and remote file storage. Current online storage  is dictated by the physical limitations of present day technologies. There is no reason why storage solutions could not become physically smaller with a higher capacity

Slua is one year old and it is back to school to-morrow (1-9-2003) for another year. I just received news of a free peer to peer network from the KaZaa people that delivers VOIP free of charge. It is in its beta stage and is called Skype. It will be interesting to see if the telecoms corporates will allow it to develope. I am lucky in as much as I have broadband through NTL.

Happy New Year. I mentioned an open source blog called Wordpress last October and they have celebrated the arrival of 2004 with Wordpress 1.0. Unfortunately, I cannot find anyone to host it for me at present so I will have to put it on the sideburner. It looks very promising.

Happy Summer holidays to all. I hope Summer 2004 brings you all the rest and recreation you need.

I just got a much coveted gmail invitation last night by begging for one online. I will spread the wealth around when my invitations are activated. As far as I can make out each beta tester is given three invitations to dispense to like minded techies.

Have a good holiday!

It is back to school time again. This page is putting years on me.  I don’t know where the holidays have gone but I do not fell rested. I received nearly 600 spam emails so I have killed the project email address. Please put in the @ for at and the . for dot anytime you see an antispam address on the site.

On a more positive note, I have put the school promo video up on the school website www.sasns.org and syndicated it using RSS. It is much longer than the last year’s audio files so let me know (webmster at slua dot com) if you suceed in viewing or downloading them.

Happy Christmas. It would appear that I have been PODCASTING for the last year and a half and I did not know it. The www.engadget.com series of articles last October seemed to refer to Macs and iPods only. The screen shots were all Apple in origin.

Belated Happy New 2005. The site will be migrating to LetsHost.com in the hope that they will be able to faclitate Wordpress. I will keep the static site running. Just key in index.htm and it will pull up the old site.

My biggest problem is I have nothing original to say other than comment on the deployment and implimentaion of this web log.

It has been quite difficult to explain the concept to the staff in my school. I think it has great potential for educational use.

Put my proposal to Léargas and they are going to send me to Linz in Austria in the new year.

I am updating this page  from the Ireland stand at the First eTwinning Conference in Linz, Austria.

Belated Happy New Year for 2006 from everybody on the stand.

I may have gotten it wrong. Everyone is interested in face-to-face cultural exchange but online exchange seems to be a step too far.

I have put my proposal up on the Twinfinder on the eTwinning Portal.

No interest at all! Pity!

I received one reply from a teacher in Malta but it is a junior class.

She has convinced me that the model of older children telling stories to younger ones will work.
We are going to do a project on national myths and legends and the children will tell them to each other using podcasting.
